Fabrica de Lapte Brașov invests over €40M to open a new automated logistics center

Fabrica de Lapte Brașov invests over €40M to open a new automated logistics center

Fabrica de Lapte Brașov, the company behind the Olympus brand and one of the largest dairy producers in Romania and the region, is setting a new standard in logistics with the inauguration of a new logistics center in Hălchiu, Brașov County. This project, backed by an investment exceeding 40 million euros, covers a total area of 13,500 square meters and is designed to optimize logistics processes.

Among numerous features, the new center also houses one of Romania’s largest high-bay cold storage facilities, designed to reduce energy consumption significantly. The high-bay warehouse has a capacity of over 32,000 pallets and is equipped with the most advanced temperature control systems (2-4°C). It is fully automated, which helps optimize resource usage and reduce the carbon footprint of the entire logistics process.

For Olympus, sustainability is a core part of the business strategy. The new logistics center allows us to strengthen our position in international markets while ensuring that our products are stored and delivered in an efficient and eco-friendly manner. We will continue to invest in sustainable technologies, providing our customers with products of the highest quality,” says Athanasios Giannousis, Commercial Manager of Olympus Romania

The technological solution implemented stands out primarily for its efficient use of space. Developed vertically by E80 Group, the new Olympus high-bay refrigerated warehouse offers high volume with a reduced carbon footprint and is one of the largest of its kind in Romania. Compared to a traditional ground-level low-bay warehouse of the same capacity, the Olympus high-bay warehouse has a six times smaller carbon footprint. This aspect provides a double benefit in reducing environmental impact: first, it minimizes built space, and second, it reduces the energy required to manage goods.

Olympus selected E80 Group to implement this state-of-the-art project. The Italian multinational has more than 40 years of experience in developing automated and integrated intralogistics solutions for manufacturers and distributors of consumer goods in various sectors such as beverages, food, and tissue. E80 Group provides hardware and software technologies to manage temperature-controlled warehouses, maintaining product quality in environments ranging from 0°C to 4°C and even as low as -26°C.

E80 Group then develops advanced intelligent factories specifically designed for the cold chain, ensuring efficient and safe handling of products sensitive to extreme conditions. “Designed to respond scalably and flexibly to the performance requirements of cold chain logistics, our solutions are revolutionizing the way food and dairy warehouses operate. With the Smart Integrated Logistics software platform, which manages all intralogistics flows, and the wide range of laser-guided vehicles we significantly increase plant efficiency,” says Giuseppe Cassano, Vice President of Sales Asia, Oceania, and Africa at E80 Group.

In addition, E80 Group’s software, as implemented at Olympus, is also capable of ensuring compliance with regulations and recipes for cheese maturation, further enhancing the reliability and quality of the production process.

The new logistics center in Brașov will serve both the local market and all the countries where Olympus dairy products made in Romania are exported, including Germany, Italy, France, the UK, Bulgaria, and Serbia. By the end of 2024, the new logistics hub will be fully operational and integrated with the nearby dairy factory, further strengthening the Group’s position as a leader in the food industry and a pioneer of sustainable development. This new facility is part of Hellenic Dairies Group’s commitment to develop a sustainable business in all the countries where the company is present.
